My school is one year old.  It cost millions of dollars to build.

My school has been out of toilet paper since Monday.

Had to bring in my own from home.

I am not making this up.

Ah, I see that not-buying-important-things-but-wasting-money-on-others is not limited to my school. (I'm assuming the wasting-money, or why wouldn't they be able to buy toilet paper?)

I need a couple of new book trucks - deep ones off of which the big picture books won't fall. We don't seem to have the money for that.

On the other hand, for our entire system (the stateside ones for sure, maybe the worldwide ones as well), they are buying "classrooms in a box." Which means that the Kindergarten, and now the first grade, teachers, have to strip their rooms practically bare, so that boxes and boxes of identical furniture, dolls, etc., for every classroom can be put in.

Did they ask the schools whether they needed anything, and if so what?

No. Our school bought new tables and such just a couple of years ago, but they have to go away to make room for this central purchase.

I'm told that at one school which happens to have quite small classrooms, there literally wasn't enough room to put into the room all the stuff they bought.

...but at least we do have toilet paper. I will comfort myself with that thought.
