Bon Appetit

Last night I watched the movie Julie and Julia.  It made me go and pull out my old copies of Mastering the Art of French Cooking and try a recipe.  Here it is--Thon A La Provencale (sorry about the lack of accents; I am too lazy to try to make them work).  Aka, Tuna Steaks With Wine, Tomatoes, and Herbs.

Unfortunately, I sliced into my finger with my chef's knife. I won't go into detail except to say that It's not too bad but will take some time to heal.   Yikes.  Just another chapter in my recent "I am an idiot" life.

The sauce, however,  was heavenly.  Note the cholesterol medicine on the edge of the plate.

Luckily, it really didn't bleed much, and I was super-careful that only the tomatoes made the sauce red. And it's remarkable how often one bumps one's index finger without meaning to. Many, many times a day, I'm here to tell you.

It looks good. I wonder if I could make it with tofu, and is Julia Child rolling in her grave at that statement?

And is that rice you made to go with it?

I'm not a tofu fan, but the sauce was really delicious and I think the recipe would work really well with tofu. And, Julia would probably roll over in her grave more if you didn't eat butter rather than your not eating meat.

The rice was a boxed mix, but was quite good. It was Near East Brown Rice Pilaf.

Never thought of combining tuna and tomato sauce, but it does look good.

I'm sorry about your ouchy finger. Take comfort that at least you didn't cut off your entire hand, a la Gen. :)

I need to start gearing up for Christmas cookie baking. Some of the German ones have to sit for a while before you eat them. I'm going to make Springerle for the first time, using the large, fancy roller I bought last year: http://houseonthehill.net/rolling-pins/showstopper-rolling-pin/
(Take a look at their other cookie molds, that can also be used for molding marzipan, and even paper. They're GORGEOUS! I want them!)

You know, I thought about Gen at the time, and how horrible that all was. Actually, I'm lucky it wasn't a whole lot worse.

That's the prettiest Springerle rolling pin I've ever seen. My mother used to make them when I was young--her mother liked the cookies--but I never cared for the taste. that will make some beautiful cookies, though.
