Ma Mere is doing fine. She'll be in the hospital for a few days. I'm flying to Ohio tomorrow to stay for a week and help my dad take care of her. It couldn't come at a worse time (first full week of school) but The BB gave me the time off and my Superstar co-worker can handle anything.
The DWJ story in Firebirds Rising is excellent. The story by Tamora Pierce is very different from anything I've read of hers in the past. The f-word in it twice along with the word "tits" surprised me since I bought it for my library and it's the first story in the book. It made me a little nervous until I read more of the book. The Pierce story is thought-provoking and very contemporary. There's one by Sharon Shinn that quickly immerses you in her fantasy world--although no magic occurs in the story--and gently teaches a lesson without being preachy. Very nice.
