Do Not Invoke the Wrath of the Librarian

I've been a tremendous slacker with LJ lately and that is gonna change!

First of all, I haven't changed my userpic in months and really miss putting my usual "what I'm reading" icon out there.  The shameful truth is that I now have a mac and have no idea how to create a userpic.  I used to use Irfan View to crop a picture ( I know I can do that in iPhoto.  At least, I think so, right?  Can I go find a book cover and save it into iPhoto?).  Then I would open it in MS Paint and put the text on.

Can anyone just tell me how to do it?  Thanks, dear f-list.

LJ notifications are fixed. 157 emails this morning.

Sorry about the anti-social behavior, but I'm bailing out of chatzy for awhile and trimming the f-list to avoid any more spoilers for A Conspiracy of Kings. Just want to make sure I read the book without knowing more about what happens.

I just weeded a couple hundred fiction books.  Guess how that makes me feel?

SAD.

But it has to be done.

Ack!  The polka dots on my new journal style are not showing up.  They are housed on photobucket.  Curse you, work filter!  Must upload the dots to LJ, I guess.

I bought a copy of Cygnet by Patricia McKillip at the used bookstore.  How is it?  Should I read it next?
