At 10:00 this morning we had our yearly code red lockdown drill. 28 students and 6 adults sitting in an office, in the dark, with the blinds closed and the door windows covered. Total silence. We could hear someone walking in the hall, checking that the doors were locked.
During the ten minutes I thought about the people who were killed in Columbine HS's library. About how ridiculous it is that schools across the country must have lockdown drills in case there are other violent lunatics determined to murder children in their schools. There will be other lunatics.
What a terrible, terrible shame.
