Blech

I just weeded a couple hundred fiction books.  Guess how that makes me feel?

SAD.

But it has to be done.

Ack!  The polka dots on my new journal style are not showing up.  They are housed on photobucket.  Curse you, work filter!  Must upload the dots to LJ, I guess.

I bought a copy of Cygnet by Patricia McKillip at the used bookstore.  How is it?  Should I read it next?

Hey, I'm reading The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, too. It's really excellent, and I love the illustrations.

I like the polka dots. (c:

awww, I LOVE THE POLKA DOTS SO MUCH!

soooo pretty!

It's not too much? I used a red background first and whoa! Too much. This one?

Oh, thanks. The filter at work blocks photobucket so at work my journal looks polka dot-less. I tried to change the html code but it's just a little beyond me.

I'm glad you're reading this, too. I've very mixed about it and afraid that I might be completely off-base. I've been working on a book post and I really hope you'll give me your opinion. I'll wait until you are finished reading it, though. Will you give me a heads-up and let me know when you are done? Or, you can do a book post and I'll comment on yours. Awesome.

:-(
(to the book weeding)

:-)
(to the polka dots)

:D
(to Cygnet)

the only way to improve the polka dots would be if they were RED

Is Cygnet the combined Sorceress and the Cygnet and Cygnet and the Firebird? Those two books are among my favorites of P McKillip's.

Frederica

Yes, that's it exactly. I thought I remembered your saying that you'd liked those.

And I tried it in red first but it was Too Much.

Yay! Thank you thank you for the book! Now I have to read it first.

I'll definitely let you know when I'm finished with the book. It's a short book but I keep putting it off, especially since I have two review books to get done by June 3. Plus, it's a little sad so far, and I'm not into sad so much right now, what with the stress of moving. I should really just sit down and plow through it, heh.

Ah, apparently we decided that red ISN'T too much? It's cute. I think I prefer the red.

Weeding is very, very sad. I am utterly shocked by the things that get weeded out of our public library. I can't believe people aren't taking these books out -- some of them are the best of the best (Leon Garfield, Jill Paton Walsh). I can never decide if it's better for me to buy them up at the discard sale and save them to give to someone I know will love them, or to leave them to be (perhaps) bought by someone who will discover them for the first time.

[identity profile] checkers65477.livejournal.com 2008-05-25 01:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm still not sure about the red but thought I'd give it another try. Have the brown/blue saved just in case.

Weeding is difficult. I was able to keep all the books by authors I know and like, such as the Garfield ones, but only because I have the luxury of a large enough facility to hold them. I worry how many others I got rid of only because I don't know enough about the older authors, or I can't predict who will become more well-read after writing subsequent books. I'm pretty rushed for time this year, but I was able to go online and read about some before deciding if they should go. Many got a reprieve.

I'm dreading the day I might still be at this library and have to weed the fiction I bought years before. That will be doubly painful. At least now I'm weeding someone else's choices.

There is no such thing as too many polka dots.

[identity profile] emmaco.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I have the same dilemma, Philia - to buy beloved discarded authors and hoard them for friends or leave them for someone who has no copy and might adore them. I'm glad I'm not the only one :)

I agree. Too much red, maybe, but not too many polka dots.
