I am distinctly out of sorts today.

I'm getting a cold and I'm crabby.  And why in hell did I ever think I wanted to work with 13-year-olds?  I've actually frightened several insolent children today with my wrath.

You thought you wanted to work with thirteen-year-olds because you do want to work with thirteen-year-olds. Yes they are sometimes difficult (my friend offers "evil"), and yes sometimes they require snapping (my friend offers "beating"), but when you aren't under the weather I suspect you will remember that they are not, in fact, total monsters, and that you like them even if they are.

Get well soon, and don't feel too put upon. After all, they're pretty young, and being young is pretty tough.

I like your friend. :)

Gah, you are right. I do like them even when they are monsters, though the smart-mouth makes me want to twist their little ears. I can still remember specific comments teachers made to me when I was that age, which makes me very careful with them. For all their bravado they can be quite fragile.

I'm taking a herbal-remedy cocktail of vitamin c, echenacea and airborne. We'll see.

I've been dreading coming down with a cold before this weekend's revelries. I hope it comes and goes quickly for you.

Um...you may wish to put down "Looking for Alaska" right at this moment and go for lighter fare.

Here's hoping it's one of those quick colds that don't linger!

I have to say that Alaska just isn't doing it for me. "It" just happened and I had read what happens so I wasn't surprised, and it's well written with a very authentic voice (why shouldn't it be, since JG is practically a teenage boy) and it all rings very true but something about it makes me say, "meh" and put it down. (That was quite a sentence, must be the cold.) It's not the grimness. I love Miles, so it's not that. I like all the characters, really. I loved An Abundance of Katherines, but with this one I keep thinking, "the Printz? Really?"

What did you think of it?

Hope you're feeling better today. And that you're enjoying Alaska more - I loved it, even more on the second reading than the first. Whereas I enjoyed Katherines, I thought it was clever and funny but kept thinking "The Printz honour? Really?" :) But I'm re-reading it so I'll see if my opinion changes!

Exactly. I found it merely entertaining up until after the Bad Thing.

Thank you! Especially for the sympathy. The thick book may have to be a comfort read of King of Attolia.

-hugs!- Poor Checkers. I'll have to work extra hard to dodge your seal ring this week.

Yeah, if I'd had a seal ring on today, there'd be some 8th graders rubbing their heads tonight.

Can you come to Baltimore and frighten insolent freshmen? Please?

But seriously, I hope you feel better soon and have a lovely visit to Ohio!

Normally I'm pretty unwrathful (really!) but I seriously scared a couple of idiots who were mocking me. Not a good idea.

Thanks! We'll have two laptops with us for up-to-the-minute briefings.

good luck with the thirteen-year-olds! I'm proud of you for mostly managing to be careful with them. (Also, have you seen [livejournal.com profile] mistful's latest post? XD)

You work with 13 years olds because you LOVE to brainwash them with awesome books which is the sole goal of the universe.

The universe loves you.

I'm a little late in answering this.

"I've actually frightened several insolent children today with my wrath."

You say that as if it's a bad thing.
